There are now quite a few sub- projects that have developed from soundcities. These are below :- SOUNDCITIES DATABASE: An online open source database of city sounds from around the world, that can be listened to, used in performances on laptops, or played on mobiles via wireless networks. Initially all sounds by Stanza you can now contribute your own found sounds. This is was the first online open source found sound database of city sounds. SOUNDCITIES GOOGLE MAP. The whole database is now integrated into google maps and google earth which includes geo data longitude and latitude and the name of the recording artist. You can travel around the world listen to the sounds. As you visit each city all the sounds appear. Each time you visit this page it takes you to a random city.
DATACITIES: Sensors are placed all over the city as a visual map of light, temperature, noise, humidity, and the data in the real time environment now place and seen live on Google Maps.. A online development of the Sensity project about visualization of real time data.
WORLD MAP: Click to see all the soundcities on one global map of the world. This now enables kml integration option to view a city in Google Earth.
SOUNDCITIES CD: Musical compositions using the soundcities database by Stanza 2003 made and released as MP3 download release. I reworked all the found sounds into finished compositions called Soundcities CD. Theis cd also called "Soundcities", mixes of all these founds sounds from the online database into a series of compositions from each world city. The intention was to also make compositional interpretation of these sounds. Working with Pelado the sounds where arranged as finished compositions into nearly 70 mins of music that forms the basis of a 'world tour'. The sounds are augmented and fractured and some are altered using specially made software but only city sounds are used. After more than a year of editing arranging and tweaking this is now finished.2003
PERFORMANCE Souncities performance by Stanza. During the performance I operate the soundcities applications and stanza websites on three laptops these generate sound control data and image data. These machine are connected to a mixing desk. Images are coming from the website projects. This is basically a live world tour of city sounds as music. Performances during the last year have been heavily focused on the sounds of cities and the database live. I have been to sao paulo, london, paris, dresden, amsterdam, saltburg, graz, rotterdam, barcelona, san sebastian, manchester, liverpool, ljubiana, frankfurt porto, istanbul mexico, chicago. These found sounds form the basis of this performance piece called "soundcities". The project "soundcities" is completely made up of found sounds and soundscapes from the thousands of samples I collected. These sounds are also fused with interactive images live cctv from around the world that I have made into online software systems. Selected performances have included: The Arts Depot in North London, DorkBot in Ghent Belguim, The Samsung Media Centre Korea, The DANA Centre London for Cybersonica, Delux in London, open-digi Brixton, Test Portal Holland, Digifest inToronto, the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City. WORKSHOPS. If you want me to make a workshop about soundcities in your city and record sounds and work with a group. This would last a week we would investigate field recording, collect sounds , edit them, put them in the database and work towards a live performance. email me.
SOUNDMAPS. The first version mixing desks made in 2000 by stanza. These soundmaps allow you to mix up sounds in a series of online mixing desks.

EMERGENT WORLD : This online visual artwork updates images from CCTV and webcams around the world in real time with sounds from around the world being randomly played from the soundcities.com database via XML stream. Made in 2003 by Stanza
SOUNDWALK: Made by.. URBAN MUSIC: AUDACITY: The sounds of the street as a generative audio cacophony. Multiple streaming players from city to city off the database. Made in 2004 by Stanza XML Access: This area was developed in 2004 to allow other artists access to the assets on the database to share my data. Now it is all shared and you can code you own interface from this XML feed. Get in touch if interested and ask for permission and tell me what you are doing.
